About Barefoots Orchard

Barefoots Orchard is a charming Bed & Breakfast using solar energy to off-set the increased occupancy of our home.

We are situated in the historic town of Bruton in Somerset opposite the twin towered church and convenient for the railway station and the town.

Bruton is home to Kings School, Bruton School for Girls and Sexeys School.

In the High Street is Sexey's Hospital, an historic Alms House.

The High Street is also home to a variety of eating places - The Sun Inn, with an interesting Persian food menu, The Castle pub, Truffles Bistro, and the award winning At the Chapel.

A few hundred yards from Barefoots Orchard is the Roth Bar and Grill and Hauser and Wirth International Art Gallery at Durslade Farm with interesting exhibitions, gardens and many facilities for visitors. Five minutes drive away is The Newt in Somerset with it's fascinating garden and welcoming restaurant.

View of the twin towered church from the house.
National Trust Dovecote, a pleasant walk from the house.

From our door there are lovely walks around the town, along the river or up to the National Trust Dovecote.

Bruton is also on the Macmillan Way and the Leyland Trail long distance footpaths.

Local attractions include Wincanton Racecourse, Stourhead Gardens, Longleat, Yeovilton Air Museum, Haynes Motor Museum, Mill-on-the-Brue Activity Centre, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and Street Shopping Village.

Wedding venues in the area include The Parish Church opposite, The Long House at Mill-on-the-Brue, Gants Mill, and Holbrook House

Nearby towns are Wincanton (famous for Terry Pratchett's Discworld), Frome (with it's monthly Indentdent Sunday market) Shaftesbury, Wells, Glastonbury, Yeovil, Salisbury, Bath and Bristol.

Dorchester, Weymouth, Bath and Frome are easily reached by train on the picturesque Heart of Wessex Line so leave your car and avoid the parking and traffic jams.
